Working programme 2008

The collaboration of the Randstadprovinces in Brussels aims at improving the international competitiveness and making the Randstad Holland an attractive area to work and live in. Specific challenges of the Randstad region are pointed out in a joint agenda towards the European institutions. End November 2007, the executive committees of the four Randstadprovinces developed and determined this agenda: the Strategic EU-Randstadagenda 2007-2011. Form 2008 onwards the running of this agenda has started. Yearly working programmes are leading for priority-setting, also with regard to the use of means and resources. The workingprogramme for 2008 is determined in April 2008 by management board of the four provinces.

The working programme 2008 focuses on five themes: three lobby- and two network themes. These five themes are:

  • Climate-adaptation
  • Air quality and traffic/transport
  • Nature and spatial development
  • Economy, innovation and labour market (Lisbon Regions Network)
  • Rural policy in a metropolitan region
On these themes, the deputies of the four Randstad provinces represent our region and positions in different European networks, like the Committee of the Regions and the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR). The representatives of the provinces within the House of the Dutch Provinces, the Randstad team in Brussels, support their activities within these networks.

In order to feed the position- and policymaking in Europe, several expert groups back home are created. Each expert group exists of experts on relevant areas of cooperation. For each subject the group is enlarged with persons interested in the subject and involved in the network of the provinces, such as cities, city-regions and/or knowledge institutions). Together, they share their knowledge on EU-policy, they place the issue in a Randstad context and they develop concrete actions. Sharing knowledge, information and positions take place at all levels

In running the joint activities in Brussels, the Randstad Brussels office working closely together with their colleagues form the four biggest cities in the Netherlands, all located in the Randstad region: Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam en Den Haag.
